Cementless Total Hip Arthroplasty using AML prosthesis

Abstract
¡¸The current interests in biologic fixation of hip prostheses has evolved as a results of long term follow up studies of cemented total hip arthroplasties in which aseptic loosening often resulted in clinical failure Bone growth into a porous
coated
implant offers an attractive to cament fixation
The purpose of this paper is to present the clinical and radiologic results who had cementless total hip arthroplasty with AML prosthesis¡¹.
The follow-up study of 75 cases of the AML cementless total hip replacement in 68 patients performed at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Yonsei University Wonju College of Medicine, between September 1984 and September 1991. The follow up
period
ranged 25 to 84 months, the average being 53 months.
@ES the results were as follows:
@EN 1. The preop. diagnosis were avascular necrosis in 41 hips(54.7%), hip fracture and dislocation in 17 hips(z22.7%), degenerative osteoarthritis in 6 hips(8.0%), neglected dislocation in 3 hips(4.0%,) sequelae of pyogenic hip in 2hips(2.7%),
sequelae
of tubercuosis hip in 2 hips(2.7), revision in hips(2.7%), hip dysplasia in 1 hip(1.3%), sequelae of LCP in 1 hip (1.3%).
2. The average preop. Harris hip score was 53.2 points, and the average postop. scores were 92.2 points at one year, 93.3 points at two year, and 94.2 points at seven years. The average D'Aubigne scores were 6 preoperatively and 11.1 at 1 year,
11.3 at
2 years, and 11.7 at seven years.
3. Postop. thigh pain was observed in 10 hips(13.3%) at 2 years and 2 hips(14.3%) at 7 years.
4. In radiographic analysis, a fomoral reactive line was found in 27 hips(36%) at postop.
2 years, acetabular reactive line was found in 7 hips(9.3%) at postop. 2 years.
5. Progerssive stem migration was developed in 3 hips(3.75) during postop. 2 years but there was no migration of acetabular cups.
6. There was no apparent loosening in femoral stem and acetabular cups.
7. Bone ingrowth into femoral stem was observed in 53 hips(70.7%) at 2 years and stable tixation was achieved in 74 hips(98.7%)
